How much is peace of mind worth to homebuyers?
Online research company Niche recently ranked the nation’s safest cities based on public crime data, and Business Insider found the median home price for each location.
Top-ranked Naperville, Ill., has a median home price of $450,000, which is well above the national median of $275,000, and more than most other cities on the safe list, which hover in the $300,000s.
Homes in ninth-ranked Sunnyvale, Calif., sell for $1.2 million, the most expensive city on the list, ahead of Irvine, Calif. ($895,000), Carlsbad, Calif. ($895,000), and Thousand Oaks, Calif., ($767,000). Even non-California cities, like Plano, Texas ($374,000), and Overland Park, Kan. ($358,950), are expensive.
Two Florida cities, Port St. Lucie and and Cape Coral, were the only two places with median home prices under $300,000.
Niche factored in larceny, vehicular theft, and homicide rates, along with user reviews, into its safety formulations.
