Atlantic Media poll reveals most Americans still want to buy rather than rent
A poll conducted by Atlantic Media/Siemens State of the City of 1,656 Americans this summer showed that a little more than half of Americans of nearly every category – race, class, gender, age, region, education, and location – reported that it was hard to “find rental housing where you live that is affordable and of good quality.” The Atlantic’s CityLab posed the question: Would building more apartments alleviate the current rental stress? But the polls revealed that most respondents didn’t think that more rental units would solve their woes; instead, they said, an increase of single-family, detached, and affordable housing stock would be the solution.
