For the Super Rich, Home Is Where the Hamam Is

Penelope Green of The New York Times documents the places where New York City’s super rich sweat in splendor.

Hamams – also known as Turkish baths – are the newest trend in luxury condos. The Cast Iron House in TriBeCa features a Pritzker Prize-winning Shigeru Ban-designed hamam, complete with a plunge pool and a “deluge” shower. The Hamam at the Halcyon uptown will feature tiers of heated marble. At 252 East 57th, a hamam is planned to have an “ice room” instead of a plunge pool, where a snow-making machine is ready for homeowners to spread the “snow” on their bodies.
