Homeowner Vacancy Rate at Lowest Point Since 2005

The NAHB reports that the Census Bureau’s Housing Vacancy Survey indicates homeowner vacancy rate is at its lowest point since 2005.

The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.9 percent in 2014, a slight 10 basis point fall from 2013 and indicative of a tight supply of housing. Arkansas had the highest homeowner vacancy rate in 2014, with 3.3 percent.

North Dakota, at 0.9 percent, had the lowest homeowner vacancy rate, reflecting the state’s considerable economic and job growth from the energy boom.
