Maine’s population is aging, and investors are opening up luxury rentals for the state’s seniors. But as the Portland Press Herald reports, affordable options lag far behind.
According to the Herald, market-rate projects in the Portland area, priced between $3,000 and $4,000 per month, are expected to produce at least 614 units in the next year or so.
Meanwhile government-subsidized projects in the same area will create a total of only 156 units with rents between $800 and $1,200 per month.
