Santa Barbara Looks at Desalination as Drought Solution

As California’s drought worsens, Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider announced that the city is prepared to spend more than $40 million to reopen a desalination plant built in 1992.

According to CNBC, the desalinated water would cost five times as much as the city normally pays for reservoir water. “It’s definitely a costly option,” the mayor said. “No water is a worse option.”
