In a World War II blimp hangar in Orange County, volunteers from Habitat for Humanity of Orange County and Home Depot are raising exterior walls for a home that will be occupied by a retired service member.
One of the homes will go to veteran Jose Hernandez and his family – his wife and three children – who currently live in a two-bedroom apartment in Stanton, Calif.
The Orange County Register reports that Jose’s wife found out that Habitat for Humanity was looking for veterans who needed affordable housing. “We decided to submit our application and hope for the best,” Hernandez said, “and we are very fortunate.”
