Bloomberg Business compiled a list of the most affluent small towns in the nation. The site considered median income and home values of towns with a population between 10,000 and 50,000.
Mountain towns that have skiing and outdoor resorts and towns on islands dominate the list. Eleven of the top 20 cities are in the Rocky Mountain region, while three are in the northeast and three are on islands. Bloomberg surmises that Utah is popular due to companies like Adobe and Goldman Sachs providing job opportunities for residents, that Colorado attracts wealthy people who made their money earlier in life, and that people enjoy the beaches and golf courses of Hawaii and Florida.
Summit Park, Utah is No. 1, with a median home value of $485,700 and a median household income of $83,336.
