According to NAHB, Americans spent $150 billion on home improvements and repairs in 2013. The figure is actually significantly down from previous years,however.
In 2011, Americans spent $178 billion on home improvements and repairs, according to the American Housing Survey, which is released every two years. In 2009, the number was $185.6 billion. The peak was 2007, when the nation spent $226.9 billion on housing fixes.
The study also broke down which categories home owners spent the most money on. Americans spent $18.2 billion on roofing in 2013, $13,0 billion on kitchen remodels, and $12.2 billion on disaster repairs.
