After changes in utility regulations in Austin, Texas, home builder Lennar began offering solar power as a standard feature in an affordable housing development.
According to Proud Green Home, the builder opened the city’s first solar-standard community this month. Local officials attended the ribbon cutting as they welcomed guests to tour the solar-powered model homes of Colorado Crossing, southeast of downtown Austin.
Single-family home prices start below $200,000, and homeowners pay a low, flat monthly fee for a system that generates more than half of their anticipated electricity needs.
