Are Smart Home Features Profitable for Builders?

Of the 1.7 million single-family home starts projected by the National Association of Homebuilders for 2017, more of these homes will be smart home-enabled, Construction Dive reports.

Today’s trends are pointing in that direction. For example, the Consumer Electronics Association reported in its latest annual building survey that nine out of 10 new homes come pre-equipped with a broadband connection.

The report also reveals that 30 percent of builders surveyed believe prewiring homes for home theater and monitored security boosts their profit potential. One in three builders surveyed by the CEA reported that installing home technologies increased their revenues in 2014.
