Financial Gifts from Parents Decline

The percentage of family and friends supplying financial help for home buyers has fallen to 12 percent, near pre-crash levels, MarketWatch reports.

In contrast, data from Zillow says that at the height of the Great Recession in 2009, family and friends of homebuyers contributed gifts and loans to nearly 21 percent of all homes, both for first time and repeat buyers.

Trends showed that the lower the income, the less likely a potential homebuyer has access to family help.
