Data from the Commerce Department found that personal expenditures rose 4.2 percent nationwide, ranging from a robust 7.4 percent increase in North Dakota to a modest 2.1 percent in West Virginia.
According to the Wall Street journal, the increase was mainly driven by spending on housing and health care.
“Across all states, spending on housing and utilities grew 4.1 percent in 2014, with North Dakota posting the biggest rise at 8 percent,” the article says.
