Rents Are Still Rising in Places Where Owning is Cheaper

In many counties across the country, purchasing a home is financially more beneficial than renting, but certain trends are keeping the homeownership rate low.

According to analysis of The American Community Survey, CityLab reporter Kriston Capps says that slow household formation among Millennials and housing starts at near-historic lows are keeping Millennials from purchasing.

“What’s more surprising is what’s happening with the costs of homeownership: They’re falling, and they’re falling all over the place,” Capps writes of the data.
