These 10 States Have The Highest Taxes

Jan. 22, 2016

Depending on where you live, the amount you pay in taxes can fluctuate wildly. MarketWatch has compiled a list of the 10 states with the greatest tax burdens. Number one on the list is New York, where 12.7 percent of personal income goes toward paying state and local taxes. If you compare that with Alaska’s number of 6.5 percent, there will be a difference of thousands of dollars.

If you live in a high-tax state, you may end up paying over $100,000 more in taxes during your lifetime than those who live in lower-tax states.
