Not All Infill Homes Are Created Equal
When you think of an infill home that exists in a crowded downtown area, you probably get a pretty specific vision in mind; a narrow home that stretches deep into its equally slender lot without much room for variation. However, if a wider lot does come along, then you have the opportunity for an infill with a twist, as architect Todd Hallett writes.
A wider lot allows for architectural opportunities such as effective auto management, stronger street presence, and preferable room arrangements. Basically, you can develop a project that more closely resembles a traditional house.
Some more specific benefits of a wider lot are allowing the plan to breathe and avoiding stacked room placement, the “wow” factor of something like a two-story turret to create interest on the street side, and adding elements that typically need more space, like an oversized shower.
