The Best And Worst Cities For Retirement

June 28, 2016

It isn’t a city in Florida or Arizona that has nabbed the top spot for retirement on this most recent list of the best places to retire. Instead, as The Huffington Post reports, Arlington, Va., took the top spot on Bankrate.com’s annual ranking of places for retirees.

The list was awash with surprises such as Franklin, Tenn., in the number two spot and West Des Moines, Iowa taking the third spot. Not every city was a surprise, however, as Sarasota, Fla. (4), Scottsdale, Az. (5), Cape Coral, Fla. (8), and Charleston, S.C. (9) were also all on the list.

Meanwhile, the worst place to retire according to Bankrate’s list is Niagara Falls, N.Y., due to its high taxes, cold and snowy climate, and above average crime rate. Other places to avoid in retirement are Milford, Conn., San Bernardino, Calif., Troy, N.Y., and Worcester, Mass.
