California Cities Are Among July’s Hottest Housing Markets

Vallejo, a port city north of San Francisco, was once again found to be the nation’s hottest housing market, according to the July report from Realtor.com.

Several other California cities, including San Jose, San Diego, Stockton, and Fresno, are trending upward. All are within the top 15 hottest markets.

The median home price in Vallejo is $385,000, which is cheap compared to the seven-figure houses that are for sale in San Francisco.

"There's nothing really special about Vallejo that's bringing people here other than the pricing," says Realtor Tim Garton of Re/Max Gold in Vallejo. "Our prices got so low compared to the rest of the Bay Area during the downturn. Now we’re coming back because ... we're a very affordable alternative."
