Denver City Council has approved a 10-month extension of restrictions on certain types of “slot homes,” the boxy, modern-looking condos and townhomes springing up throughout the city.
According to the Denver Post, local residents oppose the buildings, which can fit a dozen or more units into a space that previously held one or two single-family homes.
The extension gives city planners more time to work out zoning codes. For instance, some “slot homes” have a garden court that is just a narrow walkway with little to no vegetation.
The moratorium still allows city permitting of proposed row home developments that use the garden court form as long as the court is at least as wide as the height of the buildings and the units are side by side, not stacked.
