Millennials Like Big Cars And Homes In The Suburbs

Urban apartments in walkable neighborhoods are great until young adults start raising their own families. Then they need more space and more reliable transportation.

Fortune reports that Millennials are starting to resemble their parents. Young adults, many of whom delayed marriage, children, and homeownership, are beginning their moves to the suburbs and are buying larger cars.

Research from Zillow found that people age 18 to 34 are the largest group of homebuyers, and almost half live in the suburbs. Sales of large SUVs has increased 11 percent over the first half of the year, according to Ford Motor Co. Sales of midsize SUVs is expected to continue to grow over the next five years.

Millennials ranked having children, buying a suburban home and driving a big family vehicle higher in terms of importance than living in a major city or relying on alternate forms of transportation in a survey that Ford conducted in June.
