The National Housing Quality Awards (NHQA), a unique and robust program to recognize and improve operational excellence in home building, proudly announces the support of seven industry-leading product and service providers and a trio of NHQA Hall of Fame inductees as financial and promotional sponsors.

“Having these companies and our Hall of Famers support the NHQA mission is tremendously humbling and critical to maintain and deliver the highest level of quality to home builders that have the interest and will to sincerely improve their business acumen and results,” says NHQA executive director Jeff Eschliman, a former executive with Tri Pointe Homes, among other home building companies during his career.

Each sponsoring company is assigned exclusively to one of the eight sections that make up the NHQA program. NHQA is based on the renown Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award established by the U.S. Congress to raise awareness of and recognize companies that have implemented successful quality management systems.

Section 1: Leadership

The Leadership section of NHQA is sponsored by a trio of home building legends: Bill Saint, Tom Lewis, and David Simon—all of whom led their companies to at least one NHQ Gold Award, served as examiners and enthusiastic advocates, and were inducted into the hallowed NHQA Hall of Fame for their service to the housing industry.

As president and CEO of Classica Homes in Charlotte, N.C., Bill Saint led the company with a simple but powerful mantra: “At the end of the day, we don’t want to be the biggest, but we do want to be the best.”

That approach not only earned Classica Homes an NHQ Gold Award in 2017 (and the same for Simonini Builders in 2001 and 2010), but also enabled him to guide other home builders to achieve operational excellence as a longtime NHQA examiner.

“Who doesn’t want to feel they are constantly pushing to get better in their profession each day?” he says. “The NHQA is all about that. It helps a builder on the path to excelling and, best of all, provides a measurement stick to help guide them.”

In 1991, Tom Lewis founded T.W. Lewis Company, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based real estate investment company known for its outstanding quality and customer service in the home building industry. He guided the company to earn numerous industry awards, including an NHQ Gold Award in 2009 and was the first-ever NHQA Hall of Fame inductee.

In 2002, Tom and his wife, Jan, formed the T.W. Lewis Foundation to support higher education, children and families in need, youth character education, and a variety of local and national nonprofits that build community and strengthen America’s civil society. In 2015, Tom and Jan created the Lewis Honors College at the University of Kentucky.

He also shared his experience and expertise in business through his book, Solid Ground: A Foundation For Winning In Work and In Life. Published in 2020, the best-selling book advocates for readers to reach their full potential by finding their talent, making good decisions, taking smart risks, keeping their drive alive and managing their career, and finding success, purpose, meaning, wisdom and happiness in business.

David Simon, co-owner and president of operations at Veridian Homes, a Wisconsin-based home builder, guided his company to be the most-decorated NHQA recipient, with three Gold and two Silver awards, more than any other builder.

“We believe that quality is not a destination but a journey,” he says. “It’s a road we have been traveling since the late 1990s in search of continuous improvement.”

The builder's involvement in the NHQA has resulted in a road map for quality improvement initiatives and gave it the ability to benchmark alongside a multitude of like-minded companies over the last 25 years.

“The recognition that coincides with earning an NHQ award also acts as a unique selling point that puts us a step above our competition,” he says. "Our customers recognize this, and we have seen increased sales because of it.”

Section 7: Trade Relationships

In 1999, at the start of the ecommerce revolution, business ERP software solutions provider ECI began its journey as OfficeSupplies.com, selling reams of paper, pens, and other office supplies to online buyers. While this venture proved successful, the company recognized a greater opportunity in the technological landscape.

Embracing change, it pivoted to leverage its technology expertise, making business management software and ERP the cornerstone of its work, then expanded our technology offerings and invested in other successful software businesses under the ECI umbrella to provide our customers with industry-specific, end-to-end ERP solutions.

ECI Bolt is a project management software tailored for trade contractors who’d rather be building than stuck in spreadsheets. From job scheduling to crew communication, Bolt helps trade partners cut out the busy work and keep every project moving—fast, clean, and profitable.

Trade contractors lose countless hours on admin, scheduling issues, miscommunication, and jobsite chaos. Bolt helps them reclaim those hours and turn them into revenue.

From precise scheduling to real-time material tracking, Bolt connects the office to the jobsite so everyone’s working off the same page—keeping jobs on track, deliveries on time, and crews where they need to be.
