As homebuyers age 55 and older buy new homes, existing home inventory increases

Top home builders such as PulteGroup, Lennar, and Toll Brothers report brisk sales for their active-adult homes, Investor Business Daily reports.

For example, PulteGroup’s active-adult sales rose from roughly 4,100 homes in 2011 to approximately 5,300 in 2013, and interest continued into 2014. A positive side-effect is that with these older homebuyers looking to move into active-adult homes, they sell their old homes, adding more inventory to existing homes, NAHB Director of Economic Services Stephen Melman points out.
