Despite strong economic headwinds facing Houston in 2016, the housing market saw a record number of home sales. According to a year-end report from the Houston Association of Realtors, buyers purchased 76,449 single-family homes, a 3 percent increase from 2015 and 1.3 percent higher than the previous record in 2014. While the market has softened since the height of the boom a few years ago, housing experts believe the downturn is likely in the past.
