The single-family rental market has come a long way from being a niche sector dominated by small landlords. Demand for the sector has grown in recent years due to the flexibility and convenience it provides to renters who can’t yet afford to purchase a home. Multi-Housing News spoke with Tony Julianelle, CEO of investment and management company Atlas Real Estate, about the state of the single-family rental market and where it is headed in the future.
“Before 2012, SFR properties were owned by mom-and-pop owners, and there was virtually no institutional capital in the asset class,” Julianelle said. “The foreclosure crisis created an opportunity for institutional capital to enter the space and now, a decade later, the sector has matured.”
