About The Project
The Twin Cities Multi-Gen Idea Home, also called the Generational Home, is more than a house—it’s a forward-thinking model for how families can live and thrive together across multiple generations. Designed by OA Design+Build+Architecture, this 3,900-square-foot residence combines universal design, resilient construction, and healthy home principles to create a space where independence and connection coexist.
Inspired by Carly, an occupational therapist, and her husband Blake, a public works professional, the home was envisioned as a “forever home” where their children and aging parents could live under one roof with dignity, safety, and comfort. Every aspect of the project—from accessibility-focused layouts to energy-efficient systems—has been designed as a showcase for the future of residential living.
This proposed home in Northfield, MN is set on a sprawling eight-acre lot and offers 6,492 total square feet, including 3,931 finished square feet and 2,561 semi-finished square feet. The property also features a 1,384-square-foot garage, a 575-square-foot three-season porch, and a 287-square-foot dog run, blending luxury with functional living spaces. With a market value of $5 million, the home is designed to provide both comfort and scale in a serene setting.
