More than 100,000 people have signed up for more information on two new retirement communities coming to Hilton Head, South Carolina and Daytona Beach, Florida from the lifestyle brand Margaritaville and Canadian home builder Minto Communities.
In an effort to reach a broad consumer base, home prices will range from the low $200,000s to about $350,000. However, Minto and Margaritaville are conceptualizing a more expensive category of homes, between $400,000 and $700,000, in response to buyer interest. CBS News reports the two cities were chosen based on a variety of factors including access to health care, coastal location, shopping and culture, and transportation.
"We are really a state of mind," Margaritaville CEO John Cohlan said in an interview. "Generations have grown up to understand it's the idea of paradise and escapism." He added, "We think we will redefine what it means to be in an active older community. It's like going back to summer camp."
The locations were selected for their weather, coastal locations and access to health care, transportation, shopping and culture, said Bill Bullock, vice president of Minto Communities.
