Who needs a car when restaurants, stores, and jobs are within walking distance?
Redfin named the 10 best cities for living without an automobile. The site filtered out cities with less than 300,000 people and found the ones with the highest composite Walk Score, Transit Score and Bike Score rankings.
Cities that made the cut are fairly expensive: San Francisco, New York City, and Boston round out the top three, and Washington D.C., Seattle, and Oakland also made the cut. Philadelphia and Minneapolis aren’t quite as pricey, though. Philly is adding walkable new construction throughout the city and Minneapolis has been building protected bikeways to make cycling safer.
