The Reserve, a 635-unit housing community on 156 acres in Carlsbad, Calif., will have more than half of its land designated as open space. Presidio and Cornerstone Communities is building the development on a former rock quarry.
“Every new project that’s being built anywhere is required to have a certain amount of open space,” the company’s co-principal says. “You don’t want a community that is really impacted by high density—you want open corridors and open spaces and walking trails.”
