An Outdoor Planter That Incorporates a Hidden Sound System

May 18, 2016

Architectural speaker manufacturer Madison Fielding has unveiled two new lines of outdoor planters with a built-in sound system that is invisible to the eye.

Part of the PlanterSpeakers brand, a division of Madison Fielding, the Piermont planter speaker series is made from slatted teak that was sourced from a managed and re-forested Costa Rican teak farm and comes in three sizes and multiple speaker configurations. The Flagstone version, on the other hand, is made from weather-proof poly resin.

The planter speakers’ three-way design features an outdoor-rated 10-inch woofer, a 4-inch midrange, and a 1-inch tweeter that deliver enough sound to cover an area of up to 1,000 square feet.

Both the Flagstone and the Piermont come in a number of models that fit any space. Priced from $2,595 to $6,495 per pair, the PlanterSpeakers are rated for indoor and outdoor use and include custom-made soft planting bags so live plants are kept healthy, and certain models can be ordered with a removable planter pot.

The pieces are handmade in Port Chester, N.Y., and can be customized by finish or to produce sound at 180 or 90 degrees.
