Solar Installations Grow Across the US

In 2026, the U.S. surpassed 6 million solar installations, 97% of which were for residential use

In 2026, the United States surpassed 6 million solar installations, just two years after it reached 5 million installations, according to data from the Solar Energy Industries Association. 97% of all solar installations in the U.S. are on residential rooftops. By 2030, there are expected to be over eight million residential solar systems in the U.S.

How is solar impacting the housing market?

As of 2026, 9% of homes in the U.S. have solar, and by 2030, that share is expected to encompass 11% of homes. By 2030, this number will grow to 11% of U.S. homes.

Additionally, there is enough solar installed in the U.S. to power approximately 50 million households, and that figure is only expected to grow. By 2034, solar is expected to power 100 million homes.

Solar touches residential properties across the U.S.

Solar installations cover a wide geographic area, and their presence continues to grow across the U.S. Between 2020 and 2026, the number of states with over 100,000 installations more than doubled from 6 to 15. Over the same time frame, the number of states with over one gigawatt of solar capacity doubled from 18 to 39.
