An Ithaca College professor and his students have developed a way to make roof thatching from discarded plastic bottles. The bottles are flattened and cut into spiral strips, which are welded together into ribbons of plastic. The plastic thatch vents heat and is quiet during rain storms. The process can make use of more than 2 billion plastic bottles that are discarded around the world each year.
