The Most (and Least) Affordable Midsize U.S. Cities

NerdWallet focused its most recent home-affordability report on midsize U.S. cities, with the Youngstown area of Ohio and Pennsylvania topping the list.

The median home price in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area is $97,600, well below the nation’s average of $266,900. The low prices make homes affordable, even for the areas' low income median of $45,382 (compared with the national median of $60,336).

Following Youngstown in affordability were Peoria and Rockford, Ill., with median home prices of $131,300 and $131,600, respectively. The least-affordable midsize cities included Honolulu, with a median home price of $818,600, and Boulder, Colo., with a median home price of $604,200.
