Franklin High School students in Stockton, Calif., have spent several semesters working on designs, plans, and, ultimately, the hands-on construction of tiny homes. The project is part of a career technical education course currently being offered by the Stockton Unified School District.

The homes are expected to be completed in the fall and will be given to families in need within the Stockton community, CBS News Sacramento reports.

Students say they are learning about construction, financing, marketing, and community engagement.

Estrella Romera is a student at Franklin High School and she said, "I think it's a really great opportunity for the community. We can really make an impact in our community by offering homes to homeless people and others in our community."
