Chief executive officer of Tesla, Elon Musk, finally unveiled the company’s new Powerwall, a wall-mounted battery that can give homeowners a first step to getting off the grid.
The New York Times reports that the product’s launch was accompanied by an event at the company’s design studio in Hawthorne, Calif., with Musk presiding and sharing features of the new product.
During a conference call before the event, Musk announced that the Powerwall would sell for $3,500 (a smaller version sells for $3,000), excluding installation and other costs. The device was derived from the batteries that Tesla uses in its Model S vehicles.
