Roofing professional Luke Wilson breaks down the differences between corrugated-metal panels and standing-seam metal roofing.
If a home builder decides to install a metal roof, Wilson says that they must find a professional contractor because if installed wrong, there is almost no way to fix it. A poorly installed roof will need to be scrapped and replaced.

According to Wilson, a corrugated-metal panel roof is the most common type of metal roof. Though a corrugated-metal roof, which is screwed into place with rubber washers, is durable and affordable, there are still drawbacks as the material can crack and pop in the heat.
“Another thing that can go wrong is when someone's not properly trained on how to put this metal down, you can under-drive these screws, then the rubber washer won't seal,” “You can overdrive them and strip them out, and then the rubber washer won't seal either and the screw will back out later so if these screws aren't put in properly you could have a really bad issue later.”

The other type of metal Wilson explores is the standing seam metal roof, which he calls the “cadillac of metal.”

Corrugated metal roofs: affordable and widespread
Today there's a couple different types of metal but what we want to talk about. First is the corrugated metal. It's what we call a panel. A lot of people call it different things. But this is actually a three-foot-wide corrugated panel made out of 29 gauge metal. It has a good coating system on it and it's baked on enamel. I talked about some of the good properties of it you know it's a good coated metal panel the panel should be here for a very long time lasts a long time the paint could fade some you know it could pop and crack some people have some issues with metal expand and contract and having some popping and cracking issues.
Cons of corrugated metal roofs
But you know that the downside to this panel in my opinion, or this right here it's these little bitty rubber washer screws that are designed to hold your roof down you really don't see these from the ground most time they're all the same colors the panel so you don't even see them as you as you're going by but these this roof here is the most popular roof system that's your she today, and it's just screwed down with these little rubber washer screws. I've taken in pre-drilled holes for a little time savings before we got started, but you can see here they run right in and these little rubber gaskets steal the water off. I'm a little concerned about the lifespan of these rebel washers on how long they'll last. This metal like this has been out now for 20 years or so, and they've held out pretty good, but I think there's better options out there. It just depends on what your budget can afford.
