Developers and designers in the Houston housing market are preparing for the wave of homebuyers in and entering retirement, offering amenity-rich, active-adult community options.

For the 55+ cohort of incoming homebuyers, it's all about variety. Robin Mueck, CEO and owner of Heritage Texas Properties, tells The Houston Chronicle, "Some of the choices include high-rise condos close to the city, master-planned communities, suburban areas that offer close-by medical facilities, country homes or acreage, golf clubs, proximity to the water, gated communities..." Reportedly, the features these buyers prize most are simplicity, security, activities, affordability, and low commute time.

Senior citizens today are younger than their age. They are mobile and active, and are looking at their choices when it comes to downsizing or considering their retirement years. "There are many choices for seniors today as they consider making changes. They also hold different values as they explore what is most important to them, so one size does not fit all," said Mueck.
