SmartAsset found the U.S. cities where homeowners are spending the most on housing.
SmartAsset looked at the places in the U.S. where people are spending the most on housing. We considered only median monthly housing costs (including mortgage payments and property taxes) that homeowners incurred.
Six of the top 10 cities where homeowners are spending the most were in California, including San Jose ($2,257 average monthly housing costs), San Francisco ($1,991), San Diego ($1,756), Oakland ($1,558), Los Angeles ($1,548), and Long Beach ($1,431). Seattle, Washington, D.C., Boston, and New York also saw high costs.
Meanwhile, homeowners are spending the least in Midwestern and Southern states like Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
