Conroe, a suburb of Houston, saw its population grow 7.8 percent from July 2015 to July 2016, a rate 11 time faster than the nation’s average pace over the same period.
Realtor.com found the 15 fastest-growing cities with more than 50,000 residents. Most of the places on the list are suburbs of major southern cities, because there’s more land available at a good price in the South. Homes are more affordable and jobs are more plentiful in southern suburbs as well.
Conroe ranked first, followed by Frisco, Texas, McKinney, Texas, Greenville, S.C., and Georgetown, Texas. Cities in Oregon, Arizona, Tennessee, Utah, Florida, Idaho, and Iowa also made the cut.
