According to the Wall Street Cheat Sheet, an annual salary of $75,000 is needed to live comfortably in most states.
 
But in some states, an annual salary higher than the national benchmark is needed to live comfortably. The list’s cost of living index data comes from the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center first-quarter report, and pricing data on the list come from Zillow and Numbeo.com among other sources.
