The pay gap between men and women is very real yet there are some cities where that disparity is less than in other places and locations where that gap is narrowing.
SmartAsset analyzed 150 U.S. cities to find the best metros for women’s pay. Researchers looked at Census Bureau figures for median earnings for women, growth in women’s pay between 2015 and 2017, women’s earning as a percentage of men’s and growth in women’s earnings as a percentage of men’s.
San Francisco was the top city for women with a $76, 568 median salary. Richmond, Va., was the leader in the East Coast thanks to its fastest growth rate, which boosted the median salary for women to $44,359. Austin, Texas was the Southern region leader with $48,971 and Madison, Wis., was the Midwest leader at $48, 472.
