Homebuyer Satisfaction Improves
As the housing market continues to swing in favor of homebuyers, satisfaction among recent homeowners is improving. According to housing market platform Realtor.com’s 2025 Consumer Attitudes and Usage Study, 37% of buyers in 2025 say they did not experience regret over their recent home purchase. While this figure might not represent the majority of buyers, it’s an improvement from the 31% of buyers without regret recorded in 2023.
Why are less homebuyers regretting their purchases?
The market has cooled in recent months, giving homebuyers more options to choose from. According to the report, the typical for-sale home sat on the market for 63 days in October, which is nearly two weeks longer than in October 2023. This longer wait time is giving buyers more negotiating power, allowing them to walk away with better deals.
Which homebuyers are most likely to have regrets?
Buyer's remorse varies widely by generation. Older generations were much less likely to regret their purchases. For instance, 60% of Baby Boomers reported no regrets, while 45% of Generation X had no regrets.
Meanwhile, only about one third of Millennials reported no homebuying regrets, and just 27% of Gen Z buyers said they had no regrets about their home purchase.
What are the most commonly cited homebuyer regrets?
Home maintenance was the biggest complaint among recent homebuyers. Of those surveyed, 16% say having to deal with more home maintenance than expected is the reason they regret their home purchase.
Additionally, 15% say their biggest regret is spending more on household items than expected, and 14% say depleting their savings account is their biggest regret.
