Housing Affordability Continues to Decline Across Major US Metros
Although nationwide home-price growth has moderated, housing affordability continues to decline in markets across the U.S. According to property data provider ATTOM’s Q-3 2025 U.S. Home Affordability Report, median-priced single-family homes and condos were less affordable than their historical norms in 99% of the 580 analyzed counties during Q-3. Additionally, 44.7% of counties analyzed in the report saw a decline in their affordability index compared with the previous quarter, and year-over-year, median home prices increased in 75.5% of counties.
The affordability report found that Among the 47 counties with populations over 1 million, the largest year-over-year gains in median home prices were recorded in Cuyahoga County, OH (up 13 percent), Fulton County, GA (up 11 percent), Honolulu County, HI (up 11 percent), Suffolk County, NY (up 7 percent), and Allegheny County, PA (up 7 percent).
