Last year, the median American home shopper on Zillow searched for a listing priced at $253,000. The median Chinese shopper, though, looked for a house that had a $572,000 price.
Zillow reports that foreign-born buyers from China compete with more affluent local buyers for properties primarily in six coastal markets: San Jose, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego and Boston.
Other cities where Chinese buyers target more higher-priced homes than American buyers include Detroit, Miami, Portland, and Washington, D.C.
