Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, and Nevada posted double-digit percentage growth in construction employment since October 2014, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Meanwhile, California added the most construction jobs overall. “A bit of good news for a sector still struggling with the effects of the Great Recession,” writes The Wall Street Journal reporter Harriet Torry.
An outlier in the generally positive trend is West Virginia, where construction jobs plummeted by 5,800 or 17 percent year-over-year. According to James Diffley, a senior director at HIS economics, the hit was caused by a large pullback in oil and gas production.
