North Carolina law would reduce property tax on finished, unsold homes

If passed, one builder says he can save $750 to $1,250 per home

North Carolina homebuilders would pay far less property tax on finished homes before they are sold, according to a bill in the state Legislature.

The state House passed a measure to tax the builders based on the value of the lot, not the home. One builder told The Charlotte Observer he would save $750 to $1,250 per house if the Senate also approves the bill and the governor signs it. The bill is meant to be an incentive for builders to do construct more homes.
