Fayetteville, Ga., considers design rules on new homes
Builders say adding more windows and restricting cladding materials would increase the cost of building without raising appraised values.

Homebuilders in Fayetteville, Ga., would have to incorporate more windows into their designs and use a single cladding material on all four sides of each house if a city council proposal passes. The council is considering mandatory uniform design standards that would start next year, even on homes in different subdivisions. A representative from the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia said the mandate would add to the cost of building a house without increasing the structure’s appraised value.
