Feds to share $10 million in grants with states in worker misclassification crackdown

Money will be doled out in amounts ranging from $28,000 to $1.3 million.

Nearly two dozen states will share more than $10 million from the federal government to boost enforcement actions against companies that misclassify workers as independent contractors. Labor Secretary Tom Perez said the grants, which range from $28,000 to $1.3 million, will help states identify and stop worker misclassification and protect state unemployment insurance benefits.
