HUD’s Castro wants to ease credit rules to increase home ownership

Department's focus shifting away from stemming foreclosures

U.S. officials will work with mortgage lenders to ease credit and boost home ownership, new Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro said. In recent years, HUD has been focused on stemming foreclosures, but now that position is giving way to concerns about tight credit. Home lending has dropped to a 17-year low.
