Google moves to advance new standard for home device networks
The Internet giant is the latest company to turn its efforts to integrating smart home gadgets.

Google Nest Labs recently unveiled an industry group to encourage makers of smart home gadgets like locks and light bulbs to use Thread, a new standard for devices to communicate on a network. Google bought Nest, a smart thermostat maker, in January for $3.2 billion. The move follows similar initiatives by Qualcomm, Intel, and other technology companies.
