Tougher penalties needed for violation of construction safety standards, says advocacy group
National Council for Occupational Safety and Health concerned about falls, silica dust exposure

Violations on workplace safety standards including fall-protections and exposure to silica dust should carry tougher penalties, according to a report from the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health. A consultant for the group says about 15 percent of fatalities in the workplace are the result of falls. The report also said that exposure to silica dust and other construction materials could raise the risk of lung cancer, pulmonary tuberculosis, and other diseases.
